Cloud vs On-Premise Hospital Software: Which Should You Choose?
Pure on-premise software avoids any dependency on internet connectivity but pushes upgrades, backups, and multi-location access onto your own IT staff. Pure cloud software is accessible from anywhere and vendor-maintained, but front-desk, pharmacy, and billing operations can stop the moment your internet connection drops. A hybrid, offline-first model — cloud-hosted for updates and reporting, with local caching at each counter — is generally the safer default for Indian hospitals, since it keeps working through an outage and syncs back once connectivity returns.
The Question to Ask Instead of "Is It Cloud-Based?"
"Cloud-based" tells you nothing about outage behavior. Ask any vendor specifically what happens to registration, pharmacy dispensing, and billing during an internet outage — not whether the product runs in the cloud. If your hospital has experienced even occasional broadband outages, this single question separates vendors that will hold up from ones that won't.
