ABDM & Compliance

What Is the Health Facility Registry (HFR)?

The Health Facility Registry is ABDM's national directory of every registered clinical establishment in India — hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, and pharmacies. A hospital receives a unique HFR ID after registering, and that ID is a prerequisite before it can issue ABHA-linked records or exchange data through the rest of the ABDM ecosystem.

Where It Fits in the Compliance Sequence

HFR registration typically comes first, before a hospital can meaningfully use ABHA creation (M1) or FHIR record exchange (M2) — think of it as registering the facility itself before registering the facility's transactions with individual patients.
